Bush Weddings

Kicheche – Travel with Hitches. Far from the clinical, charmless, coastal conveyor belt of marriages are Plains Weddings, Kicheche style. If you are going to tie a permanent knot, where better to do it under the watchful eye of an ancient Tortillis or Acacia tree, iconic, lonely sentinels that guard the priceless plains. The doves cooe in the crown of the tree, the zebras snort in the distance and a late afternoon sun illuminates the ceremony. Around the couple a steady pulse of Maasai chanting throbs and distant thunder massages the faraway escarpment. Waiting your turn in a huge hotel, waiting your turn in a concrete registry office -not the Kicheche way, you choose the tree, we’ll take care of the rest.

“Superlatives all round. Coming for our wedding was the best choice we have ever made! The friendliness and atmosphere are what make Bush Camp so special. The whole team does everything so well. Patrick is such an exceptional, considerate and knowledgeable guide – and a really nice guy! Gold stars for all!”

– Mark & Heather Barber

At Kicheche Camps, we will assist you with all formalities & procedures needed to legalize your wedding in Kenya.

Procedure to obtain a marriage licence

With the set of below documents you need to go to Sheria House (in Nairobi) and request for a marriage license (our representative will come with you).

For non-residents of Kenya, a special license can be issued which takes 3 WORKING days to process. As you will be on your chosen Kenya Safari during this time our representative will go and collect the license with the receipt on your behalf)

The Wedding Ceremony and Wedding certificate

Once the license is obtained the couple can now be married in a non-religious ceremony by a licensed Government officer. You will sign two copies of a marriage certificate, one will be sent by our representative to the Marriage Registrar in Nairobi to get the final certified copy.

Documents required:

  • 2 copies of your passport (the first 3 pages) & carry your originals
  • If single: Certificate from your Government or an affidavit from Lawyers that you are indeed free to marry (carry the originals)
  • If divorced: 2 copies of your divorce papers (decree absolute) in English (carry the originals)
  • 2 copies of your birth certificates (carry your originals)
  • Copy of your itinerary in Kenya and copy of your air tickets
  • A letter stating the FULL names, address and occupation of the couple and both their parents.
