High noon

High noon
13th February 2015 Kicheche Camps

1-DSC_1830-001Sadly it is rare that one can invoke the collective for rhino, but last week a crash was doubly pertinent. Firstly the plural was employed and  secondly some lucky people actually witnessed a mid-day battle royal  between two Laikipia high altitude black rhino.

They sparred, chased and attacked and finally the vanquished went to salve its not inconsiderable wounds in a water tank not generally used for this purpose.

Brilliantly photographed by Judith Willock and her guide Andrew.….. we can just imagine it: several tons of beast jousting, using horns as a spear. Mint rhino.
