2 Night Laikipia Camp Flying Package
Ol Pejeta Conservancy is home to Kenyas largest population of
Black Rhino, considerable numbers of elephant, cheetah, lion, leopard and
plentiful plains game. There are also a number of rare Northern species
like Grevys Zebra, Jacksons Hartebeest and Beisa Oryx. Kicheche is located
in the Wilderness zone of the Conservancy and with only one bed per 1,500
acres this offers an incredibly private experience. The Conservancy lies
on the equator and has Mt Kenya as a stunning backdrop.
Day 1
Depart Nairobi's Wilson airport for your scheduled morning flight (0800
or 1020 hrs) to Nanyuki. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred
to the camp in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, your journey time is approximately
45 minutes. Lunch at camp then relax until afternoon tea is served. Venture
out onto the rolling plains on your game drive to enjoy the wonderful
array of game on offer. Game driving in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a
true pleasure with very few other vehicles in the area. This evening enjoy
a sundowner drink at a scenic spot followed by a spotlight drive back
to camp. Take a hot shower before joining other guests for a drink around
the campfire or in our cosy lounge tent. Dine with your hosts either under
the stars or in our adjacent dining tent.
The Camp The camp consists of
six luxurious tents nestled at the foot of indigenous forest overlooking
a waterhole in the centre of the Conservancy. The Camp is hosted by Andy
and Sonja Webb, a very experienced management couple, ensuring you have
a wonderful stay at our bush hideaway. They along with our experienced
guides will co-ordinate your activities during your stay.
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy
We offer a full selection of game-viewing activities including Day
Game Drives, Night Game Drives which focus on nocturnal species
not seen on regular day drives. Interpretative Game
Walks are another activity permitted on the Conservancy.
There is also a Lion Tracking program which
monitors the lions of the area (some have been collared with receivers).
As part of the program we are able to track the lions with a portable
satellite dish and remit the data to the study centre. For those who like
to experience the game viewing differently, we are able to offer
Horse Riding back safari's. Our head guide Charles Wandero (Silver
level KSPGA), is also a competent horseman, and recommends this alternative
safari with the spectacular backdrop of the snow capped peaks of Mount
Kenya. In addition, the Wildlife Educational Centre
is interesting
for both children and adults alike, and the Chimpanzee
Sanctuary for orphaned chimps is an excellent venue to observe
the two families and learn about the perils facing chimpanzees in the
wild. We offer private visits to the Sanctuary outside the normal visiting
hours.
Day 2
An early start to the day with piping hot coffee or tea brought to your
tent. This morning take a longer game drive and enjoy a sumptuous picnic
breakfast out on the plains under the gaze of Mount Kenya. Return to camp
for an al-fresco lunch and relax afterwards observing the birdlife and
game around the waterhole. This afternoon we will take you to the Chimpanzee
Sanctuary on a private visit. Following some time with the chimps continue
on your evening game drive until dusk.
Day 3
This morning one can take an early morning walking excursion from camp
with one of our guides and a ranger. Walk duration and distance can be
arranged to suit your preference. Return to camp for an al-fresco breakfast
before departing for Nanyuki airstrip for a Nairobi flight (1200 or 1230
hrs ) or onward to Samburu (1100 hrs) or Masai Mara (1000 hrs).
